 PURPOSE

This fellowship commemorates the life of Rachel Allen, an Albuquerque printmaker and painter, by giving a local woman artist the opportunity to explore printmaking as a new medium or to learn a new printmaking technique to integrate into her current work.

ELIGIBILITY

Open to women who are within early to mid art careers and who live in Albuquerque,Santa Fe or the surrounding communities. Members of New Grounds Print Workshop, past, or present, are not eligible.

FELLOWSHIP DESCRIPTION

The Rachel Allen Memorial Printmaking Fellowship provides a scholarship to participate in one of the following printmaking classes – etching, monotype, collagraph, relief, mezzotint, and photogravure. You can find information about the class schedule here.

In addition, the Fellow will receive a 3-month membership to New Grounds Print Workshop. Workshop membership includes use of presses during normal studio hours, a locker to store supplies and a flat file drawer to store work in progress. New Grounds also provides most community use supplies such as inks and newsprint. The Workshop Fellow provides their own tools, cleaning supplies and paper or may choose to purchase these items at New Grounds.

The Fellow will use the 3-month studio membership to develop a body of work that uses the print media they learned in class. Fellows are not required to begin their studio work immediately after completing their class. However, they must conclude the studio portion of their fellowship within 6 months of taking the class.

Fellows are expected to produce 3 monotypes or 3 sets of editioned prints, suitable for exhibition, by the end of their fellowship. New Grounds may exhibit one or more of these prints once the fellowship has been completed.

The Rachel Allen Fellow is responsible for making their own housing and transportation arrangements.
