I have an
intrinsic affinity for shapes and forms. They speak much louder to me than
words; they captivate me. Some exist only in my mind, but more often than not I
find myself entranced by the lines I encounter in the natural world. I love to
roam and allow myself to encounter the shapes and angles and contours of the
world, to allow them to inscribe themselves upon my eye.
For the last three years I have been combining my long standing passion for
photographing natural forms with the photogravure process of printmaking. Most
recently, I have been rendering images that combine nudes and landscape. My
images have been inspired by early photography of similar subjects but retain
very contemporary aspects of framing, angle, and texture. These images are meant
to be straightforward and immediate, even deadpan. The viewer will inevitably
paint his or her own associations, nuances, and insinuations into the images.
But in their creation, these prints speak first and foremost to my infatuation
with language and coincidences of unadulterated shapes and forms.
