Artist Statement

My subject matter is drawn from early childhood memories, such as an owl on a rug in my childhood home in the early 1970’s.    These initial images are then distorted and altered through translation into a wood cut or etching.  Through this process, I transform the common into something uncommon.

I enjoy relief printmaking, particularly using the play between black and white to convey certain moods.  In addition, carving a block with dangerously sharp knives gives a focus and intensity to the creation of my images.  Recently, I have begun to explore the techniques of etching and monotype.  These explorations have opened my eyes to new expressive possibilities.
