Artist Statement
My prints and paintings are built up in layers. Working a surface from below and from within, I integrate different layers of color and texture to create one self-contained image. Within this unified image, I introduce a tension between calm and intensity. I also enjoy playing with texture as a way of manipulating the reality of an image. This allows the art itself to take on a beauty, a state of being that reflects the complexity of the world and of me.
I create art that speaks in metaphor of the world in which we live and the experiences we have in our world. My subjects are close to me, either from places I have lived or someone or something within those spaces. I charge each artwork with an emotional part of me, making a unique extension of myself. .
