Artist Statement
My work is mostly abstract combining symbols and imagery from everyday events. I am a process-oriented and diverse artist. Currently, I am attending the University of New Mexico as an Art Education and Fine Arts student. The combination of printmaking techniques is allowing me to explore who I am as an artist. I love the many different techniques printmaking has to offer.
My favorite technique of printmaking so far is relief printing on a linoleum block. I love the sharp edges that linoleum produces when it is cut. Linoleum is ideal for my images of suns, moons, and patterns that I like to draw. I feel connected to the earth and I like to represent that in my work.
Right now I am learning many new techniques and I am exploring the possibilities of layering images to create a whole image. I have started working with gravure and this process has given me a chance to photograph Mother Nature while on walks with my son. These images are exposed to a light-sensitive polymer plate and printed like an etching. I plan to incorporate monotype as a new layer on top of the photographic images. This will help make the images more expressive and fulfill the painter in me.
